La Ferme des Marthres, the story of a family...
The history of the Marthres farm inn in Périgord
A little history...
Our history is above all a family history, the history of men and women who have sacrificed to make the Marthres farm what it is today.
3 centuries of generations have succeeded one another on this land, gradually changing the crops and the landscape.
Our great-grandparents grew tobacco (10,000 plants) and raised a few cows (8 to be exact!).
We then "tried our hand" at a variety of crops: oyster mushrooms, gherkins, poultry, etc. in the 80s.
And then, one fine day, we decided to go into "tourism" because the region "lent itself well" to it. Needless to say, at first we were considered "crazy" by the locals!
In 1991, we set up our farm inn in the 3-century-old family home. We then began force-feeding and processing ducks (today we produce 2,500 ducks a year).
We then created our gites in 2001 and our chambres d'hôtes in 2002, always striving to go the extra mile in customer satisfaction.
Today, we are proud to produce walnuts on around 30 hectares, truffles on 2 hectares allowing us to harvest the truffles that you can taste in our omelette. 20 hectares of cereals. We grow our own vegetables for the farm inn in our own garden.
Our convictions are intact and we'll be happy to share our love of the country and our love of the land with you.
